The Commonwealth Solar Hot Water Program offers rebates for solar hot water (also known as solar thermal) systems that serve residential, commercial, non-profit, and publicly owned buildings. MassCEC provides this funding to reduce the upfront cost of installing a solar hot water system. For basic information on solar hot water systems, visit our About Solar Hot Water webpage.

MassCEC has reserved $10 million of funding for the Commonwealth Solar Hot Water program, which began July 2012 and will last until the end of 2016. The first year of the program has reserved $1.5 million in funds for July 2012 through June 2013. The pie chart below shows how much funding is remaining this year.

MassCEC Solar Hot Water Programs
Residential Solar Hot Water Grants up to $3,500 available for system installations 1-4 unit residential properties.
Commercial-Scale Solar Hot Water Rebates up to $5,000 are available for feasbility studies, and up to $50,000 for commercial-scale projects.
Commercial Solar Hot Water Financing Program Assists commercial and non-profit building owners in reducing their water heating bills by installing solar hot water at little or no upfront cost.
Low Income Solar Thermal Program Provides funding for solar hot water installations at multi-family residential and non-profit facilities serving low income residents.

MassCEC’s solar hot water pilot programs ran from February 2011 through June 30, 2012. As part of the programs, MassCEC provided additional funding to solar hot water system owners to install metering equipment.
