More than 70 students have graduated from the first series of MassGREEN courses offered since October 2010, and 70 percent are now working as entry-level technicians or as seasoned construction trades people with new green skills. Many of these people were trained at a state-of-the-art weatherization training centers, located at Springfield Technical Community College and Berkshire Community College. Training centers at these locations are equipped with the latest weatherization tools and equipment, as well as large house props for comprehensive hands-on training. These props are used by students to practice weatherization techniques in a "real world" environment, and include a life-size mock attic, basement, exterior walls, interior walls, and roof.
MassGREEN is hosting an open house at these locations on October 1, 2011 for homeowners, construction and weatherization business owners, those seeking skills in residential weatherization and anyone interested in learning more about home energy efficiency tips. The open houes is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 1, 2011 through NESEA’s Green Building Open House.A MassGREEN instructor will be on site to take visitors through the basic components of residential weatherization learned through the MassGREEN training program.
